Welcome to our Thornton family

In this blog we attempt to create a visual history of a main southern Kentucky Thornton branch, descended from Scots-Irish Thorntons who may have arrived in Pennsylvania in the mid-1700s. If your goal is to check whether or not you or a family member are listed in our genealogy file, the first eight posts contain more than 1,500 names, listed generationally. Use the 'find' command to scroll through the material...Good luck.

Also, if you have photos, corrections, or inquiries, please feel free to contact us at thorntonsoky@gmail.

Photo Session: My great-great-grandparents, John H and Lizzie Kitchens Thornton

Even though some of these photos may frighten children, it demonstrates the rather harsh nature of farming life in the late 1800s; John H Thornton, son of Robert Benton Thornton, was born in 1856 (apr.)(d. 1927) and married Elizabeth Kitchens (b. 1866, d. 1934) just after 1880. In southern Warren County and Simpson County, KY, they raised six children, five boys and one girl: Robert Monroe (b. 1884), Jesse Benton (b. 1885), Arthur (b. 1891), Della (b. 1897), John William (b. 1898), and James Hershel (b. 1903).

The bottom photo is of Robert Monroe (not pictured with siblings above) and Susie Mink Thornton.

They also had a duahgter (my sister) Jimmie Sue Busby. "RJ" Busby died in 1965 in a car accident. Helen is still alive and lives next door to me in St. Petersburg, Fl.

Hello. could you possibly tell me if this woman, Susie Mink Thornton was ever married before she married Robert Thornton? I am trying to solve a mystery for my cousin. She has been told that her grandmother, Ethel Mink who married Ray Taylor, had lost her mother at about age 6/7, being Susie Mink. My cousin has a photo that is the splitting image of your Susie Mink. So our question is: is the the Susie Woodhall Mink who might have left a previous family for another life? I can send you a picture of what I am referring too, as there is a mystery woman in the photo and hoping you might be able to help. Email pleast at kapwa@live.com or you can even call me 513-947-9556. We would like to solve this mystery about Susie Mink. Thank you, Rhonda and cousin Sherrie.
